Brief Background

• Karin Housing Association was initially established in 1988 as  Karin housing Co-op. Its founder members were a group of black women who wanted to address the  housing and social issues of refugee women from mainly the Somali Community and other ethnic groups in East London. Karin Housing Assocaition is an exempt charity registered with the Financial Services Authority under the Industrail and Provident Society Acts 1965(No: 26815R). Karin Housing Association is affiliated to the National Housing Federation and the Federation of Black Housing Organisations.

• Karin believes  the community must be fully involved in the work of karin, whilst working in partnership with other organisations and  accountable to its tenants, funders, and Management Board . Karin is committed to investing in people and continuously strives for the highest possible level of professionalism, efficiency and customer care.

• Karin does not own properties but manages schemes  on behalf of local authorities, other private landlors, and housing associations. However, Karin manages public funds through rent and funding from charities.

• Although Karin is not registered with the  Housing Corperation, it has directly or indirectly adopted many policies and new management approaches from the Housing Coorperation,  Local Authorities, other funders, Housing Partners, and Government agencies.

• Karin believes we can deliver effective public services, which are efficient, effective, accountable and offer good value for money, while engaging local communities. we also improve continously our communication, participation and work in cohesion with partners. Karin has years of experience of engaging tenants and services users in the planning and design of services. This includes work with people with social & health problems, refugees, women and families.
